This concise, accessible text gives students a solid understanding of the foundations of children’s literature across its various genres from picture books to folk literature. In his usual engaging style, popular author David Russell stresses that students need to first appreciate literature in order to later use and teach it effectively in their own classrooms. The text’s user-friendly format includes a wealth of real examples from literature, and its concise presentation allows students to spend more time reading actual children’s books.   Substantially updated to bring the text and its resource lists in line with today’s most current scholarship, the Eighth Edition includes these significant changes: A variety of pedagogical suggestions give prospective teachers ideas they can put to use in their classrooms: NEW! The Orbis Picture Awards for children’s nonfiction have been added to the appendix. Read this book for my Children's Literature class, and I really enjoyed it! This book is a great introduction to the history and different genres of children's literature, and how it continues to evolve. It is a great survey book, and easy to read!

Purchased for my daughter for school. I have not heard anything from her other than when she received it so i can only assume it was as expected.

I still refer back to this book for papers I'm writing in my upper division courses. Extraordinarily useful.

Great to be able to rent

fast shipping, description as advertised

This was a required text for a course, but it was such a valuable tool I hated to return it at the end of the rental period. Anyone interested in primary education should have this volume handy.

This will probably be the only textbook I will ever keep! Very well written :)

Great textbook! Very interesting and useful
